Poplar Baths, Tower Hamlets, London

Heritage consultant as part of a team that successfully bid to redevelop and regenerate a derelict grade II listed public baths dating from the early 1930s and owned by the London Borough of Tower Hamlets. Includes an updated Conservation Management Plan, advice and assessment of impacts for proposals to demolish part of the building, discharging conditions including building recording. David Salomons Estate, Tunbridge Wells

Strategic overview of a large country estate including several listed and unlisted buildings, gardens and parkland to inform development proposals. Support for a hotel scheme in the walled garden, drafting of an Estate Conservation Plan and various planning applications. Whilst at Heritage Collective, on-going involvement.


Piccadilly Gardens, Manchester, including the Pavilion Building

Heritage Statement in support of a planning application for a replacement pavilion building at, and improvements to, the Piccadilly Gardens in central Manchester.  The existing pavilion was designed by the well-known Japanese architect Tadao Ando; the gardens contains three grade II listed memorial statues, with a further ten grade II listed buildings in the vicinity (with more in the wider area beyond).  Whilst at Heritage Collective.


Battersea Power Station, London

Historic building recording (with colleagues) of the power station, separate pump house and the cranes on the riverside.  Whilst at CgMs Consulting.  


One Tower Bridge, Southwark, London

Environmental Statement (ES) Chapter and Supporting Statement for a mixed used development including a tall building on land adjacent to Tower Bridge and other listed buildings, partly within two conservation areas and opposite the Tower of London World Heritage Site. Supplementary Environmental Information (SEI) following changes to the scheme.  Whilst at CgMs Consulting.



Principal Place, Shoreditch, London

Supplement to an ES chapter for a tall building by Foster + Partners on the City fringe, which involved the setting of numerous heritage assets as well as impacts on the fabric of an unlisted building in a conservation area.New environmental impact assessment for a revised application. Whilst at Heritage Collective.


the Shopping Building, Central Milton Keynes

Expert heritage witness on behalf of the applicant at a call-in inquiry, dealing with the effects of changes to the modern intu Shopping Centre, immediately adjacent to the grade II listed Shopping Building.

Separately, pre-application engagement with Historic England and a Heritage Statement in support of planning permission for a 15 storey Hotel La Tour on land adjacent to the Shopping Building. The hotel, now permitted (despite an objection from Historic England), will be the tallest building in Milton Keynes.


22 Frognal Way, Hampstead, London 

Advice, pre-application engagement with Camden Council, Research Report and Heritage Statement in support of the redevelopment of a 1970s building in the Hampstead Conservation Area and in the setting of many listed buildings, including grade I and II*.  On-going involvement through the application, and the appeal following refusal. The appeal was allowed and then subject to a Judicial Review, which found that the Inspector’s reasoning was sound. Whilst at Heritage Collective.


The Maze Prison/Long Kesh Internment Camp, Lisburn, Northern Ireland 

Part of a three man team that recorded the notorious prison and made recommendations to the Office of the First Minister and Deputy First Minister (OFMDFM) regarding the significance of the site and individual buildings.  Whilst at CgMs Consulting.



Doughty House and Gallery, Richmond, London

Alterations to a grade II listed building, its attached unlisted cottage and separately listed private gallery at the rear. Includes a basement, new rear extension and conservatory. Pre-application involvement, Heritage Statement in support of the application. Follow-up applications to change the scheme. Whilst at Heritage Collective.


Monument Mall, Newcastle upon Tyne

Alterations to a large, landmark building in the heart of Newcastle.  The building is largely modern but it falls within Newcastle’s Central Conservation Area, and it also incorporates parts of pre-existing buildings, including the facades of three adjoining, individually listed buildings.  Parts of the building lies at the edge of ‘Grainger Town’ behind the grade I listed Earl Grey’s monument and it serves as a bookend to views along Grey Street, which is widely acknowledged as one of the finest Classical streets in England is and which has been described as one of the best in Europe.  Whilst at Heritage Collective.


Lodge Hill, Kent

Environmental Statement chapter on heritage (co-authored by an archaeologist), an addendum baseline study to supplement/update a previous one, and a standalone Heritage Statement relating to an outline application for a new settlement on a former MoD site that retains many buildings of successive phases of military use and expansion, including listed pillboxes, buildings under review for listing and unlisted historic buildings.  Whilst at CgMs Consulting/Heritage Collective.


London Bridge Station, London

Review of options for the redevelopment of London Bridge Station and strategic advice to Network Rail.  Issues included the demolition of part of the station, including a listed station building, and the acceptability of different options for the new station.  Whilst at CgMs Consulting.
